Alberta Minute: Indigenous Opportunities, Federal Debate, and Greta Thunberg
Alberta Minute - Your weekly one-minute summary of Alberta politics.

This Week In Alberta:
- Two Bills introduced last week will continue through the Legislature this week. Bill 14 (Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation Act) is part of the way through the Committee of the Whole stage, while Bill 15 (Real Estate Amendment Act, 2019) has passed Second Reading.
- There are two Committee meetings scheduled for Tuesday - the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, and the Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship.
- Greta Thunberg will be in Alberta. The government pre-empted her visit with a statement: "We trust that Ms. Thunberg will recognize Alberta’s leading human rights and environmental standards, especially in comparison to oil-producing dictatorships such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, and Venezuela — which she will presumably visit next — as well as major growing emitters like China."
Last Week In Alberta:
- With the Legislature back sitting, two new Bills were introduced. The first was Bill 14, which will create a new crown corporation, the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation. The move is a little confusing, as the UCP promised to sell crown corporations, not create new ones, during the campaign, but we believe that this entity will be used to fund the development of the Trans Mountain Pipeline.
- The other Bill introduced was Bill 15, which allows the Minister to dismiss the current Real Estate Council of Alberta members and appoint an official administrator, after a review of the body "identified the need for urgent governance reform".
- The sole English debate of the federal campaign federal involved a lot of arguing, particularly about Climate Change, but almost no attention was paid whatsoever to issues affecting Alberta.
