The public sector needs to shrink to reflect the collapse of the private economy that funds it. This Council has utterly failed to recognize that, by relentlessly increasing spending and taxes.

I very much agree with your comments as we have both residential and commerial properties in Calgary and have been aghast at the tax level of property increases ever since our illustrious Mayor took office. The entire ideology that prevails at City Hall is anti business and quite socialistic. This has led to a bloated civic aparatus, where they governe by way of expecting our citizen and business to be ripe for plundering for their own ideological means. What we need at the City is serious belt tightening and setting priorities of what can be afforded and what needs to wait until we are financially able to shoulder such projects.

Aside Calgary, I also live in Switzerland that has such frugal governing policies where for example a majot tunnel project will take the time to complete as finances will allow it to proceed.

We should very seriously consider stoping the several large capital projects, such as the green line, the Flames arena etc. at this point in time and get our fiscal house in order first.

Stop increasing our taxes. This council and Mayor is only looking after themselves by increasing our taxes to cover their wage increases and golden handshakes and pension! When the rest of us are dealing with wage cuts and layoffs, how disgusting of you all You who voted for the increase.
