Someone should let the government know if they are bypassing due process, then by our constitutional rights, we are not proven guilty and neither need to pay these fines, or honor their system.

Understand that I am not signing this petition because I want to speed with impunity — I have only had one speeding ticket in 40 years of driving. I do feel strongly, though, that traffic laws are no different than other laws: in a free country people should be presumed innocent until proven guilty. If there is an appeal process that doesn’t tie up the courts, great! But charging a non-refundable fee for accessing this appeal process amounts to penalizing the accused party as if they were guilty. This is the kind of law I would expect in Communist China (where I lived for many years), but not here in Canada. You can do better than this, Jason Kenney!

I can support making processes more efficient but cannot support such endeavors at the cost of the fundamental legal principles that established the systems in which we rely today that allowed our society to flourish – we suddenly seem to find ourselves on slippery slopes all around us as centralized powers test the waters with the erosion of your civil liberties and rights – this must stop now!

Due process is every Canadian’s right, and every Albertans right. This act to take away our rights to due process is another example of how our provincial government is sorely failing us.

It is every individual’s right to be considered innocent until proven guilty. The governments condescending remarks about delaying this is atrocious and I will use my voice to stand up for my rights and the rights of my fellow Albertans.

Abuse of government, and slander to freedom. A very socialist act.
