Reject The Emergencies / War Measures Act
Earlier this week, the federal government invoked the Emergencies Act (formerly known as the War Measures Act) for the first time since 1970.
As a reminder, the War Measures Act was invoked in 1970 because the Quebec nationalist group, Front de libération du Québec, set off over 200 bombs across Quebec, kidnapped a British diplomat, and kidnapped and murdered the Deputy Premier of Quebec, Pierre Laporte.
We highlight this most recent usage of the War Measures Act to explain the extremely high bar required to invoke this massive expansion in government powers, and even then its usage was opposed by the NDP on civil liberties grounds.
Since 1970, Canada has faced many crises in many different forms.
The Emergencies / War Measure Act was not used to resolve the Oka Crisis, a series of protests where multiple deaths and hundreds of injuries occurred, the Calendonia land dispute, the extended blockade of pipelines and railways in 2020 and 2021, the September 11th attacks, or even the COVID-19 pandemic itself.
This is because the Emergencies / War Measures Act contains extremely strict rules about when it may be used.
Just one of these many restrictions says that a crisis must “exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it” before the federal government may step in and take over.
The crisis must also be of a nationwide nature, not restricted to just a small geographic area.
Given all the border blockades across the country were handled and ended by provincial governments before the federal government even invoked the Act, and the only remaining protest is the one in his own backyard in Ottawa, the current protest clearly fails to meet this criteria.
Unfortunately, the nature of the Emergencies / War Measures Act is that it can be initially invoked unilaterally by the government without a vote in Parliament, and a vote in Parliament need only occur if the government wishes to extend the emergency beyond seven days.
While courts may ultimately rule that the Prime Minister's usage of this law was illegal, the requirement to hold a vote in Parliament presents an opportunity to end this government overreach immediately.
The government has already announced that they intend to attempt to extend the emergency by holding a vote in Parliament, but because the government holds only a minority in the Parliament and the Senate, the opposition and independents have a very real opportunity to block the government's plan.
That's why it's vital that we call on every single member of the Parliament of Canada, including Members of Parliament and Senators from all parties, to protect the rights and freedoms of Canadians by rejecting the federal government's invocation of the Emergencies / War Measures Act.
Countless legal experts and civil liberties groups across the country have already denounced the use of this law and called on the government to reverse course.

Now the convoys out there I have watched from day one I have friends that have gone and joined in I’ve had live video feeds daily in Ottawa from day one No violence no fighting nothing , the crime rate is down out there they sing they dance they have bouncy castles for the kids the take food to the homeless and have indigenous there for ceremony’s , the Bertrand are there and taking part in ceremonies .

Today day one of going against all parliaments wishes already a woman is in the hospital severely injured due to the police on horses knocking her down and the horse stomping on her as well as two other innocent people . They are in hospital not doing good at all . Antbthis was caused by the police pushing all the innocent protestors with the horses knocking them all down .
Then the police smashing out vehicle windows while people are just sitting in their cars and pulling them out and telling them they are arrested and won’t state as to why . Then another group of police knocked down a veteran stated pining him down in the snow and hog tied him with zap straps . These are the Canadians that you all work for and they are all being assaulted. Little old lady’s that could be one of your mothers .
For over two years now I have been waiting to have back surgery and I was scheduled to go in next week .
But I’m scared to death someone is going to shove the vaccine in me and I’m highly allergic to so many things already I almost died from c t contrast for a chest X-ray . I have lots of picture proof . My neighbour who had the booster shot over a week ago now ended up being rushed in by ambulance due to massive blood clots coming out her bottom and her private and she’s 65 . She took the booster as she was made to and now she may not make it . So I’m begging you stop the war emergencies act . These are peaceful loving kind protestor s and even while these out of town police started shoving and forcing them to the ground they were singing the national anthem and telling the police “ it’s ok we love you still even knowing you know this is wrong !
But for them to attack the veterans and elderly woman , smashing vehicles using unnessasry force this is not the land of the free . We the people have rights and one of them clearly states we have the right to free speech .
And one more thing mr Trudeau kept saying that the convoys were blocking the streets and had blockaids up all over that is utter bs . It’s mr Trudeau that has caged up the town with fencing all around it .
Mr Trudeau is the one that sent in the bad apples shall we call them to cause scenes for the news crew that only he lets the people see and not the truth .
I have hundreds of live feeds from day one that they arrived there . Day and night
I mean on Valentine’s Day all the truckers went out got roses and handed them out to the people of Ottawa the homes business police even and there’s videos of the police thanking them all . Why why is mr Trudeau getting away with all of this ?
Please stop all this madness and stop the emergencies act . I beg you
Our children beg you our grandchildren beg you . There’s so much that has been kept out of publics eyes because that’s how mr Trudeau wanted it . He didn’t want anyone hearing or seeing the truth .
I sit here and cry daily but when the convoy started I was smiling every day I had faith and hope and now all you see is just utter devistation now . There’s a live feed from today a elderly woman begging these unknown police that were attacking them to please step down as she held a picture of her two sons and then she was in tears and was explaining to them why she is there and it’s because due to the pandemic her two sons committed suicide due to the pandemic and lockdowns .
My oldest daughter she has been going back and forth to Vancouver for mental anguish . My mom was diagnosed with cancer in nov . A good friend of mine diagnosed with colon cancer that’s lead to her liver kidney and stomach and you know what everyone keeps being told ? Due to pandemic there’s a shortage of staff I’m sorry but there’s a lengthy waiting list . So basically by time things go back to normal they could die .
Another friend of mine was so healthy into going to the gym and stuff and was told he could no longer go unless vaccinated so what does he do he got the vaccine the same day he got it he had heart failure now he has a pace maker and will never live a normal life again .
These vaccines do not solve anything they are causing more harm then good . We the people all know this now after witnessing pregnant woman loosing their unborn children to sudden miscarriages . Heart attacks at extreamly young ages why because every one wants their life’s back so they cave and get the vaccine and now who knows how much time they have .
My husband had both and booster and is always complaining his chest hurts his arm hurts his entire body aches . And bad head aches . And he just doesn’t feel like him self any more . He’s scared a 54 year old man should not feel like this at that age . Please please stop the emergencies act .
I here by also request a no confidence vote against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family members in cabinet .
We need our freedom back and this is the only thing the convoy was trying to do from the start and mr Trudeau refused to talk .
