We have so many other resources to support our economy, NOT! The rest of the world will be happy for less competition with more cleanliness. We should be the leaders and example in the industry.

From a global perspective, how do we stop fossil fuel drilling in the Arctic?

Now that protests and blockades have successfully prevented safer environmental developments in Alberta (denying native nations opportunity for jobs, real training, and take proceeds back to their community for kids, seniors, funding themselves) it helps market opportunities for Russia to develop artic resources to fill the worlds demand.

Russia’s coastline accounts for 53% of the Arctic Ocean coastline. As such, it’s perhaps no surprise that Russia wants to extend its influence in a region. It is estimated that there could be trillions of dollars’ worth (as much as $35 trillion) of untapped gas and oil reserves, that Russia is keen to tap.

Russia’s government is offering tax incentives for offshore oil and gas developments. Those incentives are resulting in three new massive offshore oil projects.

Currently, there is only one producing offshore oil platform in Russian waters

Aside from Russia’s commercial development of the Arctic, another pressing issue in the region is Russia’s militarization of the Arctic.

Is anyone paying attention to such headlines?

Capping the oil and gas industry before the economy is set up to use other energies is ludicrous. It will not stop the amount of oil and gas used, it will just cause problems with access to energy. It’s as stupid a plan as, for example, firing most of the firefighters because robots can do a better job, when there aren’t any robots to take over. It spells disaster for Canadians. Do things in a logical order!!
