Free trade helps people and businesses focus on what they do best, making them more productive and innovative.

It opens up markets, giving consumers more choices and better prices on everything from food to technology.

By encouraging competition, free trade pushes businesses to improve, lower costs, and create better products and services.

It also strengthens global relationships, encouraging peace and making trade partners less likely to engage in conflict.

Most importantly, free trade puts people first by breaking down barriers that protect special interests at the expense of everyday Canadians.

Yet today, unnecessary trade barriers - many within our own borders - are holding us back, driving up costs, and preventing Canadians from reaching their full potential.

Alberta’s vast energy resources should be fueling prosperity across the country and beyond, yet outdated interprovincial restrictions block the movement of oil, gas, and electricity.

Protectionist policies in industries like telecom, dairy, and air travel keep costs high and limit choices for consumers, all while shielding large corporations from competition.

Now, threats to free trade are growing.

President Donald Trump has threatened sweeping tariffs, and Ottawa has signalled it will retaliate with tariffs of its own, continuing the cycle of economic isolation that ultimately harms consumers and businesses on both sides of the border.

Instead of responding with more protectionism, Canada should be doubling down on free trade by tearing down internal barriers and opening new markets abroad.

We cannot rely on a single trade partner or wait for the next round of tariffs to disrupt our economy.

A more competitive, outward-looking Canada would give businesses the freedom to grow and reduce our vulnerability to political uncertainty.

It’s time to expand trade opportunities - both at home and abroad.

Free trade is about ensuring Canadians have access to the best products and services at the best prices. 

It’s about empowering entrepreneurs, expanding markets, and strengthening our economy from coast to coast.

It’s about breaking down barriers, not putting up new ones.

It’s time for bold action.

It’s time to remove the outdated restrictions that are holding Canada back and build a truly open, competitive, and dynamic economy.

We urge our leaders to pursue policies that:

• Remove interprovincial trade barriers to create a seamless domestic market for goods, services, and energy.
• Expand energy access to the coast to unlock export markets and boost economic growth.
• Increase competition in telecom to reduce costs and improve service for Canadians.
• Open Canada’s skies to more competition to allow greater access to foreign airlines.
• End supply management in dairy and poultry to lower grocery prices and expand trade opportunities.

Free trade fosters competition, drives innovation, and fuels prosperity.
