Alberta Pension Plan Debate
There's been no shortage of discussion and debate around the Alberta Pension Plan proposal in the last few weeks - much of it on social media, and much of it without merit.
Pundits have been offering up a variety of opinions, and all the usual suspects are critical of the plan.
Assorted union executives, NDP activists, and mainstream media types have been fear-mongering and disparaging the idea of a provincial pension.
But at the Alberta Institute, one of our jobs is to take on the responsibility of promoting important public policy issues, which is why our President, Peter McCaffrey, agreed to participate in a public debate with a couple of these doubters.
Yesterday, Peter joined radio host turned podcast host Dean Blundell and Alberta columnist Max Fawcett, and over the course of 90 minutes, walked them and the audience through the actual facts about an Alberta Pension Plan.
So, if you're interested in learning more about the APP proposal yourself, or you just want to watch a good debate, then take a look:
If you still have questions, don’t worry - we've almost finished writing a really detailed explainer piece that covers all the various myths and facts about the Alberta Pension Plan proposal, and it'll be in your inbox early next week.
In the meantime, if you'd like to support our work promoting an Alberta Pension Plan, and other pro-Alberta policies, please consider making a donation towards our efforts.
